BTS’s Suga Charts An Important Solo Top 10 In The U.S.

BTS have scored many hit singles across a wide array of Billboard charts, and more recently, several members have landed lofty placements on their own, proving that they can create art the public loves both as part of the group and as soloists. This week, a member of the biggest vocal group on the planet reaches the top 10 on one of the chart company’s most competitive rankings...with a little help from an old friend.

BTS singer Suga teamed up with pop artist Halsey for the track "Suga's Interlude,” which will be featured on her upcoming album Manic, which is expected to drop next month. The cut was released early as a promotional tune, and fans have quickly turned it into a success, at least on one important ranking.

This week, "Suga's Interlude" rises from No. 41 to No. 10 on the Digital Song Sales chart, which ranks the bestselling tracks in the U.S. every frame. The cut sold just under 9,100 copies in the past tracking week, which is enough to put it ahead of recent releases by the likes of Taylor Swift, Shawn Mendes and Selena Gomez.

"Suga's Interlude" is credited to Halsey, BTS and Suga, and that last name is important, as the song is now his first appearance on the list as a soloist. He has only ever ranked inside the top 10 on his own on the World Digital Song Sales ranking, which is specific to foreign-language cuts, but this chart includes all languages and genres, and thus it’s much harder to rise close to the top.

BTS has appeared inside the top 10 on the Digital Song Sales chart at least half a dozen times, but only one other member has found space inside the highest tier under their own moniker. Earlier in 2019, fellow BTS singer and dancer J-Hope pushed his solo track “Chicken Noodle Soup,” which features Becky G, to No. 9.

With healthy sales and streams and three popular names attached (Halsey and BTS being the more powerful of the two), "Suga's Interlude" may even reach the Hot 100 when it refreshes in a few hours....but even if it doesn’t, this latest win is just another sign that 2019 was the year that BTS showed how powerful they are by selling an impressive number of songs. It turns out this was also the year that the members of the septet showed they could earn hits on their own as well.
